Rotorua Night Market opens 4 March

Rotorua's Tutanekai St will host a new “boutique” night market from 4 March 2010. It is hoped the Thursday night Rotorua Night Market will draw visitors and locals into the central city after dark. The Rotorua Post reports that 30 stalls will operate in the precinct and there will be entertainment, such as cooking demonstrations.

Japanese Zero for Warbirds Over Wanaka

The star attraction at this year's Warbirds Over Wanaka international airshow will be a Japanese Zero fighter of the type that raided Pearl Harbour, taking the US into World War II. The Zero was later used in kamikaze attacks. The rare fighter, one of just three airworthy Zeros in the world, is being shipped here from the US for the Warbirds Over Wanaka airshow at Easter. The Otago Daily Times reports that the Mitsubishi-built Zero will join about 65 other aircraft on display at the airshow and will perform on all three days of the event.

Milford Sound Scenic Cruises

With Bollywood fever hitting Queenstown and a steady increase in the Indian tourism market, local operator Real Journeys is now dishing up a range of Indian cuisine on its Milford Sound Scenic Cruises. A selection of Indian dishes has been added to the existing International Buffet for tour groups booked onto the cruises. The menu was developed after researching the cultural and religious preferences of the valuable Indian market. The dishes includes Goan chicken curry or Tandoori chicken, aloo gobi, dahl, chickpea curry, broccoli with cumin and garlic, mango pickle, poppadoms, samosas and basmati rice.

Going all the Way

Tourism New Zealand says a campaign targeting backpackers and challenging them to 'Go All The Way' to New Zealand has stepped up a notch in 2010 with a series of events and promotions. A new ‘Go All the Way’ website - www.goalltheway.to - was launched in January, and paid online advertising has begun in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. Another part of the campaign saw the start of a road show on Sunday 17 January at the infamous Cheeky Monkeys bar in Byron Bay, NSW, the first of a series of weekly parties over an eight week period on Australia’s east coast.

British Passport applications

From 1 February all new and renewal British Passport applications are to be submitted at New Zealand Post PostShops and Kiwibanks nationwide. New Zealand Post will be providing a checking service for all people eligible for a British Passport which will include new, replacement passports and renewal requests, some 20,000 passport applications a year. This easily accessible service is a result of a drive by a British Foreign and Commonwealth Office initiative worldwide to improve efficiency.

Barry Manilow's new show at Paris Las Vegas

Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow will open a new resident show at Paris Las Vegas from 5 March. Manilow will perform 78 shows each year for two years in the intimate and elegant 1,500 seat Paris Théâtre. Directed by the man responsible for Flashdance, A Chorus Line and High School Musical, this new show includes all the songs that have made him a pop culture icon over the past 35 years.

In a 'first' for the iconic New Zealand event Warbirds Over Wanaka, Goodbrands.co.nz has developed a range of commemorative wines for the International Airshow. The special Warbirds wines - a 'Spitfire' Marlborough Sauvignon, a 'Hurricane' Central Otago Pinot Gris and a 'Mustang' Central Otago Pinot Noir - will be available for a limited time from Betty's Liquor stores throughout New Zealand as well as at the airshow.
