Checked bag fees on the rise

US carriers Delta, United, Continental, US Airways and American have all now hiked their checked bag fees effective 1 February. They want an extra five bucks per bag - US$25 for the first checked bag and US$35 for a second checked bag.

Delta announce 2nd Bag Charge for U.S. Domestic flights

Effective 05 May, Delta Air Lines will charge US$25.00 for the 2nd piece of checked baggage on U.S. Domestic flights. Delta SkyMiles Elite Frequent Flyers and First/Business Class passengers will be exempt from this fee and will continue to be allowed to check up to 3 bags at no additional charge. The US$25 bag fee for the second checked piece of luggage will not apply to international flights.
