The Cook Islands departure tax for children up to the age of 12 years has now finally been abolished, following a government flipflop. Every person over the age of 12 years is required to pay the new adult $55 departure tax.

As of today 1 September 09, departure tax will no longer be payable for children aged 2-11 years when leaving the Cook Islands. The only departure tax charge that will apply will be for Adults (12yrs +) NZ$55pp. Infants (0-2yrs) and transiting passengers are exempt. The Cook Islands Departure tax is not included in the cost of the airline ticket and may still be purchased at Westpac Bank either in Avarua township or at Rarotonga International airport.
