Merger of Delta and Northwest announced

17 April 2008, 11:58 am Useful Information

This merger further strengthens the coherence of our partnerships on the transatlantic market. Thanks to anti-trust immunity proposed last week by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), we are confident we can quickly build a global partnership between Delta, Northwest, KLM and Air France in the form of a joint venture offering a network with extremely attractive multiple hubs.

This merger between Delta and Northwest facilitates the implementation of this transatlantic joint venture combining the Air France-KLM Group and the new Delta group encompassing Northwest.

The principles governing the merger no longer require additional funding through an exclusive capital increase from Air France-KLM.

We had agreed to offer financial aid under the previous terms, while reasserting that our objective was to facilitate the merger of Delta and Northwest and avoid all combinations which could have been in opposition to the existing alliance system. Our priority was not to invest in the U.S. air transport industry in the long term, and we are totally satisfied with the new framework which strengthens our North Atlantic partnership without the need for financial aid on our part.
