Air France mainstreams mobile boarding pass service

12 February 2009, 11:13 am Flights & Airfares

On 3 February 2009, Air France is extending its mobile boarding pass service, where the only paper required to access a plane is a passport or ID card, to all its La Navette shuttle flights to and from Paris-Orly Airport and Marseille, Nice, Toulouse and Bordeaux (the return flight from Bordeaux to Paris-Orly will be available as from 9 February).

The mobile boarding pass service will also be mainstreamed on flights from Marseille, Nice and Toulouse to Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol as from 3 February (and from Bordeaux as from 9 February)This service will also be available on flights to France from Amsterdam-Schiphol.

Faster, simpler travel

Whatever the booking option chosen, after checking in on the mobile Internet website - http://mobile.airfrance.com (up to 30 hours before the latest check-in time), La Navette shuttle passengers can receive their boarding card containing a secure barcode on his mobile phone through SMS or MMS text message if it’s a normal phone or by e-mail if it’s a smartphone with mobile Internet access

This paperless boarding pass contains all the data found on a conventional boarding card (passenger’s name, boarding time, boarding gate, departure time, seat number and travel class, …)

Once at the airport, customers display their boarding pass on their mobile phone to:

  • check-in any baggage they may have at the baggage drop-off point by scanning their barcode,
  • pass through security checkpoints by showing the screen on their phone,
  • access the lounge if eligible, by showing the screen on their phone,
  • board the flight by scanning their barcode,
  • enter the aircraft, by showing the screen on their phone to the cabin crew

As with electronic tickets, all data concerning the customer’s reservations remains accessible in the booking systems at all times If a phone is out of order or needs to be recharged for example, customers can print their boarding card at a self-service kiosk or have it printed by a member of the Air France ground staff.

La Navette in figures

Flights scheduled every hour or every half-hour to Paris-Orly, Toulouse, Marseille, Nice and Bordeaux
5 million passengers carried in 2008
158 daily round trips

Service soon to be available on all medium-haul flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle

The mobile boarding pass service has been operational since September 2008 on the 15 daily flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol, both ways, with no onward flight connections.

The service will be available from Nantes to Paris-Charles de Gaulle as of 23 February 2009

On 2 March 2009, it will be extended to all medium-haul flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle to all French and European destinations, excluding the United Kingdom

During March, it will be phased in on flights from Germany, Scandinavia and other French airports to Paris and Amsterdam-Schiphol.

An environmentally-friendly service

The mobile boarding pass service reflects Air France’s commitment to protecting the environment This initiative will potentially eliminate 5 million paper boarding cards on the La Navette network
